About PhoneGen

PhoneGen is a free, browser-based utility designed to generate random US phone numbers that are safe to use in any context. Whether you are a software developer building a new application, a designer creating mockups, or someone who values their privacy, PhoneGen provides reliable fake phone numbers that will never connect to a real person.

Our Mission

We built PhoneGen to solve a common problem that developers, testers, and content creators face every day: the need for realistic-looking phone numbers that do not belong to actual people. Using real phone numbers in test data, screenshots, or documentation can lead to harassment of innocent individuals, legal issues, and privacy violations. PhoneGen eliminates these risks entirely by exclusively generating numbers within the officially reserved 555 range.

How It Works

Every phone number generated by PhoneGen uses the 555-01XX range for the local subscriber number. This range (555-0100 through 555-0199) has been specifically set aside by the North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA) for use in fictional contexts. These numbers have been designated as permanently unassignable, meaning they will never be allocated to real telephone subscribers, now or in the future.

The area codes used are real US area codes, which makes the generated numbers look authentic and pass basic phone number validation checks. However, the 555-01XX local portion ensures the number can never reach a real person. This combination gives you the best of both worlds: numbers that look real but are guaranteed to be fake.

Key Features

  • Bulk Generation: Generate up to 100 random phone numbers at once for database seeding, form testing, or any scenario requiring multiple numbers simultaneously.
  • Multiple Formats: Output numbers in standard US format with parentheses, dash-separated format, plain digits, or international format with the +1 country code.
  • Area Code Selection: Choose from any real US area code to generate numbers that appear to be from a specific geographic region, or let the tool pick area codes randomly.
  • Pattern Matching: Our AI-powered pattern matching feature lets you generate numbers that follow a specific pattern while maintaining the safety of the 555 prefix.
  • Instant Copy & Export: Copy individual numbers or all generated numbers with a single click. Export your numbers as CSV or TXT files for easy import into databases, spreadsheets, or testing frameworks.
  • Statistical Analysis: View real-time distribution analysis of your generated numbers, including area code breakdown and digit frequency charts.
